An ornate pair of repoussé brass wall sconces, stamped and dated to the reverse by O.F. Hellström of Nyköping, Sweden, 1902. The sinuous forms typical of the period frame a central recessed panel — likely intended to reflect candlelight — with classical faces presiding above and mermaid-like figures flanking either side, all amid finely worked foliage. Each sconce retains its original candle holder and is numbered 240 to the reverse. Striking and slightly surreal, they sit somewhere between Norse mythology and the Art Nouveau imagination.
