This textile is likely an example of traditional West African indigo strip weaving, commonly found in countries like Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and Mali. These fabrics, often called "kita" or "kente" in some regions, are typically made from narrow strips of handwoven cotton that are sewn together to create a larger cloth. The indigo dye, derived from local plants, gives the fabric its deep blue color, while the vibrant stripes of yellow, red, and white are added to introduce contrast and decorative patterns.

The pattern here reflects both artistry and skill, as the weaver has alternated colors and created a rhythm across the textile. Each stripe seems deliberately placed, lending the piece a sense of balance and movement. The variations in pattern, with some areas featuring denser color bands and others more subtle lines, are hallmarks of handcrafted textiles, as they reflect the individuality of the weaver. These textiles often served ceremonial purposes or were worn during significant cultural events, making them both a piece of art and a piece of history.
