Outdoor spaces deserve as much thought and creativity as interiors, yet garden designers have long had fewer resources when it comes to sourcing beautifully designed furniture and sculpture. This was a frustration for Tabi Jackson Gee, a garden designer and writer, who wanted to bring original, story-rich pieces into her projects—objects that reflected the consideration and care she and other garden designers put into their making.

That idea led to Them Outdoors, a new online gallery launched in spring 2025, dedicated to British-made garden furniture, sculpture, and planters. By collaborating with skilled makers—many of whom are creating outdoor pieces for the first time—Tabi is helping to redefine what garden furniture can be.

Here, she introduces a selection of standout pieces from Them Outdoors’ debut collection, each showcasing the craftsmanship and creativity at the heart of this new venture.

Blooming Bench by Tom Hatfield

This spring I launched a new online gallery for design-led garden furniture, sculpture and planters. It’s called Them Outdoors.

Them Outdoors came about for a few reasons. As a garden designer I want to put original pieces in my client’s gardens that have stories behind them, and add layers to the design. Where I and my client’s knew something about the person that designed or made them.

I often work with interior designers - who as a profession are spoilt for choice when it comes to sourcing interesting pieces for inside. I was envious and felt that garden designers should have similar resources.

The final reason is more personal. I love gardens, and too often they are an afterthought when we think of our homes. Some people love plants, and that’s their route into appreciating their outdoor space. But gardens are about more than plants. They’re places to sit, entertain, relax, play… And beautiful pieces of furniture and sculpture that are talking points, and things to be proud of, can help us connect with and enjoy our gardens even more.

And so in 2023, we decided to set up Them Outdoors. ‘We’ being me and my boyfriend - who’s a web developer turned furniture maker and therefore an excellent business partner.

We decided early on that Them Outdoors should focus solely on British-made pieces. I spent two years finding people to work with; brazenly approaching people whose work I admired and asking if they’d ever considered making pieces for outside.

Fortunately lots of those people said yes. Feeling, like I did, that somewhere like this needed to exist. Many of them work on commissions a lot of the time, so the opportunity to make prototypes and work on new designs that they had full creative control over was appealing.

The result is our spring 2025 launch collection, which we are immensely proud of. It is a wonderful mix of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design that hopefully starts to cast outdoor furniture in a new light.

Here are a handful of those pieces that I feel represent the creativity, incredible technical skill and vision that we hope will define Them Outdoors for years to come.
